Our Story

Founded in Canmore in 2005, Alpine Precision has grown from a small local tree service into one of the Bow Valley’s leading providers of professional tree care, wildfire mitigation and forest management. We serve homeowners, businesses, and government clients throughout Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise, Kananaskis and the surrounding Bow Valley.

Our multidisciplinary team includes three ISA certified arborists and professionals with backgrounds in forestry, wildfire management, engineering, technical climbing, rigging and mountain-access work. Our credentials include the ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ), the Tree and Plant Appraisal Qualification (TPAQ) through the American Society of Consulting Arborists, and professional engineering expertise regulated through the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).

Our crews are supported by a specialized fleet, including chippers, trucks, excavators, skid steers, elevated-access equipment, ATVs, snowmobiles and stump grinders. This combination of technical expertise, field experience and equipment capability allows us to manage everything from routine pruning and removals to complex hazard-tree assessments, tree appraisals, FireSmart vegetation management and large-scale forest projects in challenging mountain environments.

Alpine Precision is fully insured and SECOR certified with the Government of Alberta. Safety, technical quality and respect for our clients, crews, surrounding properties, the public and the environment guide every project we undertake.

John Newsome

Senior consultant and Arborist for APTS since 2008. Local Albertan from the small farm town of Cremona. He has brought his wealth of knowledge with machinery, leadership and mentoring, passion for trees and excellent client service. John is a Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture, and he has a plethora of knowledge in all things Arboriculture. He is iconic in providing his team with amazing opportunities to develop and grow, cultivating confidence and success. Safety of his team and client satisfaction are his top priorities.

Danny Finn

Danny has been a valued member of Alpine Precision Tree Services since 2014. Originally from County Cork, Ireland, he has grown with the company through hard work, dedication, and a passion for the arboriculture industry. Today, he proudly serves as General Manager, leading the team with a hands-on approach and a commitment to excellence.

As an ISA Certified Arborist, Danny combines technical expertise with years of field experience. He understands every aspect of the business and is always looking for innovative and efficient ways to deliver exceptional results for clients.

Danny is passionate about building strong relationships with customers, supporting his team, and maintaining the high standards that Alpine Precision is known for. His strong work ethic, and unmistakable Irish charm make
him a favorite among both clients and crew members.

Eric Scott-Iversen

Originally from North Vancouver, Eric joined the Alpine Precision team in early 2022. Since then, he has become an integral part of the crew, bringing a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety and professionalism to every project.

As an ISA Certified Arborist and Crew Supervisor, Eric combines technical expertise with hands-on experience in the field. An accomplished tree climber, he plays a key role in overseeing job site operations, supporting his team, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

Eric takes pride in creating a productive and positive work environment while delivering exceptional service to clients. His leadership, attention to detail, and dedication to arboriculture make him a valued member of the Alpine Precision team and a trusted presence on every job site.

Theo van Zyl

Born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa, Theo earned his Forestry Technician Diploma in Hamilton, Ontario before making Alberta home. Having lived in Canmore for over six years, he has been a valued member of the Alpine Precision team since 2020 and now serves as a Crew Supervisor.

With a 15-year career in wildfire management, Theo brings extensive knowledge of FireSmart practices, and safe work procedures to every project. As a experienced chainsaw operator, he is known for his strong leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to building a positive and productive team environment.

Passionate about continuous learning, Theo is currently working toward becoming an ISA Certified Arborist while exploring new opportunities within the arboriculture industry. His dedication, professionalism, and enthusiasm for the outdoors make him a trusted leader and valued member of the Alpine Precision team.

Mel Heyd

A proud Metis Albertan, Mel has called Canmore home since 2014 and has been an integral part of the Alpine Precision team since 2021. As the first point of contact for many clients, she is the friendly voice on the phone and the person behind the emails, helping ensure every customer receives exceptional service from start to finish.

With over a decade of administrative experience, Mel manages the day-to-day operations of the office and plays a key role in keeping the business running smoothly. Her strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and dedication to maintaining health and safety programs help support both the team and clients alike.

In recent years, Mel has developed a passion for arboriculture and has become increasingly involved in field operations. Holding a Level 3 WTA Chainsaw Certification, she continues to expand her skills and knowledge in the tree care industry, with the goal of becoming a tree climber and learning the technical aspects of tree removal. Her enthusiasm, versatility, and commitment to growth make her a valued member of the Alpine Precision team.

Keith Mc Cabe

Originally from Dublin, Ireland, Keith has called the Bow Valley home for the past five years and now serves as a Crew Supervisor with Alpine Precision Tree Services. Known for his calm nature and exceptional work ethic, he leads by example and is a trusted member of the team both on and off the job site.

Keith brings a high level of skill and dedication to every project, with particular strengths in technical rigging and physically demanding tree work. He holds a Level 3 WTA Chainsaw Certification. His focus on safety, precision, and teamwork helps ensure every project is completed to the highest standard.

Committed to continuous learning and professional growth, Keith is working toward becoming an ISA Certified Arborist while expanding his knowledge of tree biology and Tree Risk Assessment. His passion for the industry and desire to grow with the company make him an invaluable part of the Alpine Precision team and a respected leader in the field.

Austin has called Canmore home since 2017 and is a valued member of the Alpine Precision Tree Services team, serving as a Crew Supervisor. With strengths in risk management and technical rope systems, Austin brings a high level of skill and precision to every job site. He holds a Level 3 WTA Chainsaw Certification and is also an ACMG Rock Guide, with years of experience working in technical rope access and mountain environments.

Dedicated to continuous growth within the arboriculture industry, Austin is working toward becoming an ISA Certified Arborist. His strong work ethic, technical knowledge, and passion for excellence make him an integral part of the Alpine Precision team and a respected leader in the field.

Cassian Brown

Originally from Herefordshire, England, Cass has been calling Canmore home for the past nine months and brings a wealth of international arboriculture experience to the Alpine Precision Tree Services team. His positive attitude, professionalism, and technical expertise make him a valued member of the crew.

With three years of experience as a lead climber in the UK, Cass has developed advanced skills in technical tree climbing and aerial rigging. He holds multiple internationally recognized arboriculture certifications, including CS30, CS31, CS38, and CS39, and is known for his precision, efficiency, and commitment to safe work practices.

Passionate about continuous learning and professional development, Cass is working toward becoming an ISA Certified Arborist while pursuing his long-term goal of becoming a self-employed arborist climber. His strong technical background, dedication to excellence, and enthusiasm for the industry make him an important part of the Alpine Precision team.

Sean Clynch

Sean grew up in Sturgeon Point, Ontario, and has called the Bow Valley home for the past 14 years. With a background in landscape construction, Sean has developed a strong ability to problem-solve and approach challenging work with a calm and practical mindset.

Sean recently earned his Arboriculture Technician Certificate through Olds College and is continuing to build his knowledge and experience in the arboriculture industry. He is exceptionally knowledgeable, approachable, and always willing to share his skills with those around him. His ability to communicate clearly and train others makes him a valuable member of the Alpine Precision team.

Sean is looking forward to continuing to grow his skill set with Alpine Precision and working toward becoming an ISA Certified Arborist. His positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to helping others make him a great addition to the team.
